[CHF26] Monthly Missive - March
CHF 2026 Participants:
Thank you so very much for signing up to help people meet history face-to-face at the Colonial Heritage Festival! We're absolutely thrilled to have you join our growing village of talented interpreters, artisans, volunteers, and history enthusiasts. Together we'll create an unforgettable three-day celebration of our nation's founding: the largest living history celebration west of the original 13 colonies!
We've got four months until the big event on July 2–4, 2026, at Scera Park in Orem. To keep everyone in the loop, we'll be sending out a fun, informative "Monthly Missive," full of important updates, tips, and reminders.
These missives, and other information meant only for participants, will be posted on the festival website for easy access (https://festival.colonialheritage.org/2025/07/details.html). Anytime you follow a link that's meant only for participants, you'll be prompted for a password, which is "chf"

We are depending on you to get the word out! The social media committee needs YOUR help to boost our posts. It’s a huge help to repost any content about the festival.
**Have a computer?** The Festival Needs YOU (or your tech-savvy teens)!:
We need your help to make our social media campaigns thrive! The social media committee is seeking individuals who will be willing to take part in a class to learn to use a free software called Canva on Saturday, the 14th at 8:30 am (Utah time). It’s as simple as dragging and dropping the files we provide for you. You’ll then be asked to give about an hour of your time for a weekly assignment with support available. We are seeking 7 volunteers for this position. Please email Dallin Larsen if you are interested.
**Colonial Eyewear:** While building the new website this year, we noticed two things. First, you guys look fantastic. Second, one thing that could improve the look of many is colonial eyewear. Gove found a great deal on some entry-level colonial eyewear. They are so comfortable, he now wears them all the time. Here’s a link. https://www.fytoo.com/product/FT935774?id=5615
At the writing of this message, the silver frames are discounted to $7 (normally $23), and it only cost $30 for his single-vision prescription. These are good from a distance, but not perfect for up-close inspection (e.g., they have nosepads and hooked temples); however, they are a great step up from modern frames.
If you are looking for truly period-correct eyewear, we recommend these from James Townsend and Sons: https://www.townsends.us/products/18th-century-reproduction-glasses-gl-791. These are $42 just for the frames, and you’ll need to work with your local optician to get lenses, so for a single-vision prescription, these might set you back a total of around $100.
**Children's Activity Opportunity?** Does your presentation or booth naturally include elements that could engage children? Or could it be adapted to do so with a little extra support?
If you're interested in adding a fun, educational children's activity to delight our young festival attendees (and help families stay longer!), we'd love to hear from you.
Please contact Stacy Russon at (925) 381-3418 to discuss ideas and collaboration.
**Presentation Development Committee:** The Colonial Heritage Festival is now the largest living-history celebration of our nation’s founding west of the original 13 colonies. As such, we are doing our best to help everyone’s presentation get a little better each year. To this end, we have organized the Presentation Development Committee to review each presentation and make gentle, helpful recommendations for improvement. Because of the number of exhibits and presentations, we won’t be able to make recommendations for everyone every year, but if the committee is able to perform as planned, everyone should hear from them once every four or five years.
As you probably know, this large event is made possible with your help and hundreds of community volunteers, but you, the festival participants, are the heart of this event. We can’t thank you enough for the sacrifices you make to help people meet history face to face and celebrate our nation’s founding in a truly meaningful way. As always. feel free to reach out with any questions.
We remain your most humble, obedient servants.
